Foodies in Canteens
Supporting healthy food choices
Foodies working to improve point of sale choices in school canteens allow community members to make informed decisions about their food choices, and work to ensure healthy and tasty options are available. This creates supportive environments for students who want to make healthier food choices, and can help to increase the consumption of fruit and vegetables and other foods lower in fat by students while at school.
In the Mid North, a Foodie is embedded in the Canteen of Gladstone High School, where she is working to improve the school canteen to make it healthy and enjoyable for the students at the school.
“We’re passionate as we begin the journey as volunteers, so given that were doing it as a volunteer initially just shows that we believe in what we do”
Julie Brown – Community Foodie
