African Communities
The project involves Primary Health Care sites and Community Foodies in the metropolitan Adelaide area, working with the African Communities Council. Our trained Foodies are always eager to promote their good food – better health messages and following a request from the African Communities Council, Foodies were called upon to assist in promoting a range of basic nutrition concepts to newly arrived migrants and refugees. What makes this project so special is that we have asked members of the African community to become 'Mentors' to make sure that when we do a program or session with African groups, we are addressing the right issues and concerns and making the information relevant and understandable. At the moment the Community Foodies involved in the project, cultural mentors and site health workers are developing several nutrition modules, after consulting with the African communities about what information they would like most.
